Baseball BUZZ (Baseball info in our areas)

What's Happening in our Baseball Community

Atlanta Area, Georgia

1/17/2023- Baseball practice is just around the corner.  2023 prospects Colin Houch (Parkview)(6-2, 190, 88 MPH infield arm, 6.71-60) and Antonio Anderson (North Atlanta)(6-3, 208, 89 MPH infield arm, 6.68-60) are two of the best shortstop prospects in the United States.  The premier shortstop in the US is Dylan Cupp (Cedartown).  Houch is an athletic shortstop with a Plus arm that has several D1 options in both baseball and football (QB).  He also sprays the field with gap power with his quiet and consistent stance.  Anderson is one of the premier switch hitting scholastic players in the Nation.  His plus arm strength and size project nicely at the next level.  Dylan Cupp (Cedartown) is the premier shortstop that will attend Mississippi State with Colin next season.  Luke McNeillie (Milton) (6-3, 168, 92-94 MPH Fastball, 6.85-60) is one of the better RHP athletes in the Greater Atlanta area.  Good student with three solid pitches he can throw with consistency.  Luke also has a lot of room to get stronger and could develop into one of the best Pitchers in the Nation once he "fills out" a bit.  The Atlanta area continues to be a hotbed for D1 Baseball and Football recruiting.  In addition to Colin Houch, Parkview (Lilburn, GA), has the potential "break-out" players including Garrett Lambert (6-2, 200, RHP 91-93FB), Porter Berryman (5-11, 174, LHP 83-85FB), Ford Thompson (6-1, 182, LHP 90-91FB), Landon Stripling (6-0, 198, 2B/3B/OF 86-88 off the mound, 87 infield velo, 7.47-60) and 2024 Catcher, Brett Andrews (6-1, 190, 1.83 POP Time, 6.92-60, 95 Exit Velo).  2024 Michael Mullinax (North Cobb Christian) (89-90 FB, 97 OF velo, 101 exit velo) is currently the top underclassman in Georgia.  More to come...

Central Tennessee Area

1/17/2023- Another good student, Brady Smith (Grainger), should develop into a premier pitcher this upcoming season (6-2, 176, 93-95 MPH fastball) Brady's curve and slider have nice bite, while his change is showing huge potential with improving mechanics.  Ethan McElvain (Thompson Station/ Nolensville) is a 6-4, 208, LHP that touches 94 with his fastball and has a strong frame.  Once he develops a Change he will slide up the draft boards.  All players in this area have good grades (which is rare for an entire group).  Ethan Robinson (DCA)(6-5, 215, 92-93 FB) committed in November 2022 to play at the college he always dreamed of playing for....Vanderbilt.  Austin Hall (Brentwood Academy) and Isaac Bush (Brentwood Academy) are a pair of 2025's that are projected to make great strides this year on the mound with added strength to their 6-2+ frames.  Christian Lim (Montgomery Bell)(5-11, 185, LHP, 86-88 MPH fastball) has committed to play at Stanford University next season.  Hunter High (Lipscomb Academy)( 6-0, 205, 85-86 FB, 6.88-60) is one of the better utility players in the area that can do it all on the field and in the classroom.  Once again, Central Tennessee and the Nashville area continue to funnel players to Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and other SEC schools.

1/23/2023- College Players from Central Tennessee are one of the best group of prospects in the United States.  This season expect Chase Burns (Gallatin/ Tennessee, 96-98 FB, 8-2 record with 2.91 ERA as Freshman) to work his way into a TOP FIVE MLB pick in the June 2024 MLB Draft.  Others that will work their way into future MLB drafts include Drew Beam (Murfreesboro, TN), Ethan Smith (Mt. Juliet), Jake Fitzgibbons (Mt. Juliet), JD McCracken Murfreesboro, TN), Will Mabrey (Cookesville), and Shawn Scott (Clarksville).  More to come...

Carolinas

1/17/2023- Chase Mako (East Rowan)(6-6, 195, RHP, 91-92 MPH fastball) is one of the premier Pitchers in North Carolina.  Slider and Change are coming along nicely and will move him up the draft board if effective this season.  Another above average student has the brains and physical abilities to become something special.  The Charlotte- Mecklenburg area down to Rock Hill continue to become a potential hotbed for baseball talent.

1/24/2023- South Mecklenburg High has a trio of 2024 Pitchers that should develop into college prospects this season.  Louis Hill (6-4, 250, RHP), Cole Gillis (6-2, 157, RHP), and Zach Johnson (5-10, 155, RHP) have all displayed a 82-84 MPH fastball range with developing secondary pitches.  Drew Blaylock (6-3, 227, RHP) is a 2023 from Independence High School that sits between 86-88 MPH.  John Lash (6-5, 219, LHP) is a 2025 that is developing into an elite Pitcher for Charlotte Christian with his 89-90 Fastball and 1 to 7 Curve.  Once this group develops consistent change-ups, it will be a heavily recruited group.  More to come...

The High School Prospect Camp at Vanderbilt University is usually a five-day camp, Monday through Friday. The camp focuses on the fundamentals of the game and caters to all positions. The central location for all instruction is Hawkins Field, the home stadium for the Vanderbilt Commodores, and a couple of the adjacent practice fields. The typical daily schedule includes position practice and gameplay to get instruction that is personalized to their game and in-game practice. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to watch every day of the camp, allowing everyone to experience a little bit of this former SEC baseball powerhouse.

Belmont University, Dates TBA in next few weeks                                           ****

Become a Tiger High School Camp (LSU), July 21-23rd or July 28-30           *****

It should come as no surprise that the Louisiana State Baseball Camp is on our list. LSU is known for many of its athletics programs, and its competitive baseball team is one of the popular choices. LSU's Become a Tiger Camp intends to allow high school players to experience LSU Tiger Baseball while learning and improving their game. To do this, the camp is led by the LSU Baseball coaching staff, and campers get to move into a locker in the LSU locker room for the three-day camp. Not only do players get to improve their skills by learning from the LSU coaches, but they also get a seminar to learn about what it takes to play baseball in college. For a prospective high school player who does not know where to start, the information given is beneficial.

Ole' Miss Summer Baseball Camp, Dates TBA in next few weeks                 ****

High School Prospect Baseball Camp (University of Arkansas), TBA              ***

If your goal is to get very in-depth, specific training for your position only, then the baseball camps at the University of Arkansas need to be your first stop. There are different camps for each position that includes hitting practice as well as position instruction. If you are interested in an all-around camp to get closer to the Arkansas coaches, then the High School Prospect Camp is for you. This camp is known for its previous attendees, as many of them are now playing in the MLB or are MLB veterans. Imagine attending a camp that is known for future professional players. That seems like a reason on its own to participate in this camp. Another reason should be the University of Arkansas' insane baseball reputation. There should be no question that this camp will prepare any player with the skills necessary to extend their baseball career into college.
